KARACHI: PPP, ANI endorse strike call

KARACHI, May 25: The Pakistan People’s Party, Karachi chapter, has extended its support to the strike call for Saturday (May 27) given by the Sunni Tehrik and endorsed by several other religious parties.

The call has been given to register protest against the government’s failure in arresting those involved in the April 11 blast at Nishtar Park.

PPP’s city chief Rashid Rabbani said in a statement on Thursday that citizens felt insecure as the government had failed to combat terrorism.

He also appealed the people to fully support the strike call to record their protest against the government’s failure in arresting terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Anjuman Naujawanan-i-Islam (ANI), Karachi, has also announced its support to the Ahl-i-Sunnat Rehbar Committee’s call for observing a protest day on Friday and a peaceful strike on Saturday.

ANI’s city convener Syed Arshad Aqil, speaking at a meeting at the Markaz Baitul Mustafa here on Thursday, said that the organisation would take out processions on Friday in different parts of the city.

Religious scholars and central leadership of the ANI would address public meetings, he said, adding that ANI chief Tariq Mehbub and Allama Ashraf Gormani would address a protest rally at Jamia Abu Bakr, Gulistan-i-Jauhar.—PPI
