PESHAWAR, May 25: Senior civil judge Asghar Shah Khilji on Thursday reserved judgement in three cases filed for violation of the law banning meals in wedding parties.

The court fixed Friday for pronouncing the judgment.

In another case, the court framed charges against a bridegroom and summoned witnesses in the case.

All the four cases have been registered by the (Town Municipal Officer) under the Marriages Functions (Prohibition of Ostentatious display and Wasteful Expenses) Ordinance, 2000, which bans serving of meals in marriages.

The first case was registered against a resident of Town 1, Mohammad Siddique. He was charged of arranging a meal during the marriage of his daughter. He has adopted the plea that the meal was not served in the marriage and in fact it was ceremony of Khatm-i-Quran.

In the other two cases, the bridegrooms Bilal Khan and Subhani Khan were charged of holding valima on occasions of their marriages during which they had served meals.

The prosecutor of Town Council 1, Khan Shah, stated that the accused had violated the law, adding that the TMO had found them involved in the offence and a large number of guests were found enjoying the feast.
