ISLAMABAD, May 24: The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to prepare computerised electoral rolls for the forthcoming general elections.

Commission’s secretary Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad said in an announcement on Wednesday that necessary arrangements were being made to start computerisation of voters’ lists by the second week of July.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Qazi Mohammad Farooq has already appointed 182 registration officers and 2,238 assistant registration officers throughout the country while about 25,000 supervisors and 75,000 enumerators will be appointed in a couple of weeks. The staff, drawn mostly from the education department, will be given adequate training.

The secretary said the commission had also asked the provincial governments to ensure that the staff appointed for enumeration would be available at the places of their posting during summer vacations in July.

Revising authorities will also be appointed in due course from among judicial officers.

The CEC has advised the general public to get computerised national identity cards well before time. The CNIC is compulsory for registration as voter and for casting vote.
