ISLAMABAD, May 23: Wapda and Navy made it to the semifinals of the second national squash team championship as did CAA and Army following matches on Tuesday at the Mushaf Squash Complex.

CAA who blanked NWFP 3-0 drew Army in the pre-final while Wapda set up a meeting with Navy.

Majid Khan of CAA showed no signs of a gruelling contest against Khayal Mohammad of Navy the day before, and needed only 18 minutes to knock out Riaz Hussain 9-3, 9-2, 9-1.

Basit Ashfaq quickly made it 2-0 with a 9-5, 9-6, 9-0 defeat of Alamzeb while Bilal Zaman downed Bilal Khan in less than half an hour 9-5, 9-2, 9-5.

Wapda, spearheaded by Yasir Butt thrashed Balochistan 3-0 with Navy walloping HEC by an identical margin.

Army managed to pick up a 2-1 win against a fighting PAF.

Extended to four games, Yasir was on court for 46 minutes before overcoming the challenge of Shamsul Islam 7-9, 9-3, 9-6, 9-7. Later Farhan Mahboob swept past Murtaza Yousaf 9-0, 9-3, 9-1.

Balochistan's Zafarul Islam conceded his match to Amir Atlas.

Navy's victory came about through Khayal Muhammad, Farrukh Zaman and Adil Atlas, all of whom were comfortable victors.

In contrast Army's Shah Nawaz was stretched to five games by Safeerullah Khan before completing a 9-2, 7-9, 3-9, 10-9, 9-1 win in 89 minutes.

Khalid Atlas was also made to toil by Naveed Atlas but went down 6-9, 5-9, 9-3, 9-0, 1-9 in almost one hour.

Zubair Ali ensured Army's victory with a straightforward 9-1, 9-1, 9-3 scoreline against Fazal Shah.

On the women's side, Wapda set up a date with Navy in the semifinals while CAA will play Army.

Navy bt HEC 3-0 (Khayal Muhammad bt Fahim Zaman 9-5, 9-6, 9-0, Farrukh Zaman bt Atiqur Rehman 9-5, 9-2, 9-4, Adil Atlas bt Yasir 9-3, 9-1, 9-5.

Wapda bt Balochistan 3-0 (Yasir Butt bt Shamsul Islam 7-9, 9-3, 9-6, 9-7, Farhan Mahboob bt Murtaza Yousaf 9-0, 9-3, 9-1, Amir Atlas bt Zafarul Islam (match conceded).

Army bt PAF 2-1 (Shah Nawaz bt Safeerullah Khan 9-2, 7-9, 3-9, 10-9, 9-1, Khalid Atlas lost to Naveed Atlas 6-9, 5-9, 9-3, 9-0, 1-9, Zubair Ali bt Fazal Shah 9-1, 9-1, 9-3.

Women's: Wapda bt Sindh 3-0 (Maria Toor bt Irum Jahan 9-3, 9-0, 9-0, Muqaddas Ashraf bt Habiba Khan 9-2, 9-2, 9-2, Aliya Sarfraz bt Bushra Haider 8-10, 9-3, 9-1, 9-4).

Army bt Punjab 3-0 (Misbah Rani bt Maliha Shahid 9-3, 9-1, 9-2, Sarah Awan bt Zeba Pervez 9-6, 9-2, 6-9, 9-4, Zoya Khalid 9-1, 9-7, 9-6.

Semifinals men's (Wednesday) Wapda v Navy at 10:00 hrs, CAA v Army at 15:00 hrs.

Semifinals women's (Wednesday) Wapda v Army at 10:00 hrs, Punjab v Sindh at 15:00 hrs.
