KARACHI, May 22: A superb all-round performance by Malir Gymkhana’s Ariz Kamal failed to prevent Pakistan CC from winning the KCCA Centenary Inter-club cricket title at the KCCA Stadium on Sunday.
Ariz, younger brother of Test batsman Asim Kamal, captured six for 43 with leg-spinners and later scored a fighting 41 as Malir Gymkhana lost the final by 32 runs.
After being put into bat, Pakistan CC rattled up 279 in 49.2 overs. Skipper Mansoor Baig led the run spree with 79, a knock that featured six fours and one six.
Shaharyar Ghani struck four boundaries and one six in making 58 while Kamran bin Mansoor slammed 54 with the aid of three fours and two sixes.
Malir Gymkhana, in reply, made 247 before being all out in the 48th over with three batsmen run out, including ex-Pakistan captain Rashid Latif for 27.
Khalid Latif followed a tidy spell of two for 21 by hitting 54. He stroked two sixes and as many fours while dominating an opening stand of 94 with Shahzaib Ahmed (33).
Khurram Manzoor also reached a half-century. His 51 was laced with two fours.
Slow left-armer Nauman Alvi captured four for 34 in nine fours – all his victims being frontline batsmen. Off-spinner Tabish Nawab claimed the vital scalps of Ariz and Khurram to finish with two for 31.
Ariz was declared the Man-of-the-Match. Khurram bagged the best batsman and Man-of-the-Tournament award while Nauman Alvi was adjudged the best bowler.
