LAHORE, May 22: Fancied three-year-old colt, Chan, stamped his bloodline superiority with a runaway triumph in the feature event run over a sprinting distance of 1000m during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the flood-lit Racecourse on Sunday.
The colt showed astonishing turn of speed and clocked a fast timing of 59 3/5 seconds over the distance, a fraction short of the record of 59 2/5 seconds set by the mare, Fanim in 2001.
The colt raced over the dust track while Fanim owned by Syed Parvaiz Hussain Shah set it over the grass track.
Chan shot into lead right from the start and accelerated his speed with each stride, finishing a distance ahead of Empire Maker.
Miss Pole and Trace Hit completed the Frame among six starters left after the last-minute withdrawal of Fajr.
The winner breezed home and was given a confident ride by jockey M. Hanif in this seventh and last race of the day.
Chan is the son of Wathbat Nashwan from the lineage of illustrious progenitor Nashwan, who won the King George Cup at Royal Ascot in early 1990s by nine lengths.
It is interesting to note that Chan was beaten to third place in the May Day Cup run over 1400m on April 30 last under jockey Kashif Qamar, a performance which had raised many eyebrows.
Earlier in the fifth race the bay filly Para Game ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman made all the running to land a popular success to the delight of the connoisseurs of sport.
This filly, from Polinesso out of Long Game ran very bravely to beat Namroud by six lengths.
Her victory came as a great consolation for Shahid Rehman, who lost the fourth race on odds-on favourite Top Cat by half-a-length from Red Flame.
Trainer Khushnood-ur-Rehman, father of Shahid Rehman was equally lucky when he sent out Billoo The Great in the second race of the day.
Thus the jockey son and trainer father scored one victory each but separately.
M. Hanif rode three winners and in the process further consolidate his lead in the jockeys table totalling 56 wins todate.
He is being followed by Shahid Rehman with 41 wins.
