Bridge: Four Bidders victorious

KARACHIi, May 22: Fancied Four Bidders claimed the weekly Karachi Bridge Association (KBA) - Swiss Movement tournament after securing 97 Victory Points (VP) by winning four matches at KBA office, National Stadium.

The team comprising Tariq Zafar, Asghar Abbas, Farhat Abbas, Ahmed Abdul Hameed and Syed Ameer Hasan first trounced Abbas IV 25-5, than Kazalbash 25-5 followed by close win over Aces 16-14.

After losing the close fourth round match against Maq, Four Bidders bounced back to overwhelm Chandna 17-13 to claim the event in which as many as 12 teams contested.

Kazilbash having Anwer Kazilbash, Bhurgri, Mazhar Khan and Zafar Khan also scored 97 VP by winning against Zeenat 25-5, 20-10 over Candyland.

Their next two wins came against Aces and Alliance with the scores of 22-8, and 25-5. Maq finished third with the score of 86 which they collected 16-14 from Puri, 17-13 from Candyland, 18-12 from Chandna 16-14 from Four Bidders and 19-11 from Aces.

Maq comprising Dr A Hasan, Maqbool Khan, Rahimullah, Jawad Abidi and Iqbal Abidi won all their five matches.

Meanwhile, It was a very full house for week-end Pairs Contest and competing from the North-South direction, Iqbal Hyder-Ebrahim Baig did the magic by trouncing other leading pairs.

They scored 61.87% for the prime position followed by father-son pair of Qamar Puri-Mubashir Puri 59.60% and A. K. Bhurgri-Anwer Kizilbash 58.32%.

Irfan-Tanvir Mazahir scored 59.18% from the other direction to win the title. Akhtar Khan-Iliyas 58.16% were second and Khalid Zaki- Mahmood Sidiqui 56.67% third.—Agencies
