HYDERABAD, May 22: Rejecting construction of dams on the Indus river, nationalist leaders of Sindh and Balochistan have demanded that water should be released into the river without delay to enable farmers to cultivate Kharif crops on time.

They were speaking at the 36th death anniversary of great hari leader Hyder Bux Jatoi, popularly known as Baba-i-Sindh, in the Kalhoro colony here on Sunday.

They demanded that the influx of outsiders in Sindh should be immediately stopped, army operation in Balochistan should be called off and false cases against Baloch leaders Nawab Khair Bux Mari, Akbar Bugti and others should be withdrawn.

They condemned the demolition of old villages in urban areas and called upon the government to enforce the 1940 Pakistan resolution in letter and spirit.

They demanded that the standard of education should be improved, jobs should be given to local unemployed people, state land should be allotted to Sindhis and separate courts should be established for haris.

Resolutions adopted at the anniversary function condemned torture of workers of Dadu and Thatta sugar mills.

Another resolution demanded that a chapter on Hyder Bux Jatoi in syllabus of class-II should be included which had been deleted.

Sindh Hari Committee president Azhar Jatoi, Balochistan National Party chief Dr Hayee Baloch, Seraiki National Party leader Majeed Kanjo and noted leftist leader Mairaj Mohammad Khan spoke on the occasion.
