Importance of quality education stressed

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, May 21: Minister of State for Education Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli has said that the completion of President General Pervez Musharraf’s political agenda would bring about a revolution in the country.

Speaking to Pakistan People’s Party workers here at the party’s secretariat on Monday, Ms Tahirkheli said Gen Musharraf had put the country on the development track and brought prosperity to the people.

She said educational reforms would open up new vistas of progress for the youth to play their role on national and international levels. She called upon the student community to focus on their studies and help the government to execute its reforms.

The minister said that increase in educational budget would make a positive impact on all segments of society and they would equally benefit out of governments reformative measures.

She said educational reforms were aimed at spreading education to the remote parts of the country. She said the government was trying to improve the literacy rate and bring the country at par with other advanced Asian nations.

She said that only quality education could help in eradicating tribal and social taboos and superstitions from society. She said the government had taken a number of steps, with the consent of the provinces, to improve the educational system which could meet the national and contemporary requirements.

She said the PPP-S had done a lot for the uplift of Pukhtuns. She said her party had played a positive role in politics and introduced culture of tolerance and cooperation in the country.
