Centre refuses to enhance provinces’ share

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 22: The centre has turned down provinces’ demand to include petroleum taxes and unutilised workers’ welfare fund in the federal divisible pool. Syed Ahson Shah, Balochistan’s Minister for Finance, said on Monday that petroleum taxes and workers’ welfare fund amounted to about Rs45 billion and Rs15 billion, respectively. The inclusion of these two items, he said, could have increased the size of the federal divisible pool by Rs60 billion. He said the provincial share in the federal divisible pool was around Rs300 billion.

He said that Balochistan’s share in the next year FDP would increase by about Rs6 billion but the allocations would not be fully available to the province because of the law and order situation and subsequent security breakdown.
