KHAIRPUR: Nazim urges water for tail-end growers

KHAIRPUR, May 22: District Nazim Syed Niaz Hussain Jilani urged irrigation officers on Monday to ensure that Thari Mirwah, Kotdiji and Faiz Ganj talukas particularly the tail-end areas received water.

The nazim met irrigation officials including superintending engineer irrigation Sukkur, executive engineers east and west and concerned SDOs irrigation to redress complaints about shortage of water.

He directed the irrigation officials to ensure provision of water to the three talukas particularly the minors which supplied water to the tail-ends.

The officials complained that the police were not cooperating with them in Gambat and Sobhodero talukas in registering cases of water theft.

He rejected the suggestion to deploy rangers along the minors and canals to stop theft of water and said the police were already assisting in this connection.

Not too far from the meeting venue, a large number of farmers whose lands get water from Sonwah, Sadarang and Bilawal minors staged a procession and then blocked the Thari Mirwah-Setharja road for an hour to protest against shortage of water.—Correspondent
