KARACHI, May 22: The nazims and councillors of Lyari Town on Monday criticised acute water shortage in their town and accused the KWSB officials for negligence. Chairing the meeting of union council nazims and councillors, Lyari Town Naib Nazim Abdullah Rahim Baloch said that presently Lyari was braving an acute water shortage. He said that water tap of his own house was dry. He told KWSB officials that they were responsible for the water shortage in the town and asked them to ensure supply of water to Lyarittes.
UC-6 Nazim Abdul Majeed Baloch said that Lyari people wanted water at all costs. He asked KWSB officials to give water to people at least for two hours.
On the occasion, Town Nazim Malik Muhammad Fayyaz set up a water committee with Abdul Rahim Baloch as its convenor and Malik Muhammad Hashim, Abdul Rauf Baloch, Habib Hassan and other union council nazims as its member.
Muhammad Ramzan, Abdul Majeed Baloch, Jam Muhammad, Shaikh Mehboob Rehman, Shah Jehan Baloch, Abdul Rauf Baloch, Rafique Hingoro and other union council nazims also spoke.
KWSB Executive Engineer Nizamuddin briefed the meeting on the prevailing water supply situation in the town and assured that it would be normalised soon.
Cleaning : To ward off any possible danger of contamination of water by sewage, KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftekhar Haider called for immediate phase-wise cleaning of manholes in all 12 union councils of Landhi.
He was talking to Town Nazim Ismail Tara at a meeting in his office with regard to water and sewerage problems.
The town nazim informed the managing director about overflow of sewerage water in some areas and shortage of water in Majeed Colony, Sectors 4-A and 4-B. He said these areas were situated at a higher altitude and water could not reach there due to low pressure. —PPI / APP
