KARACHI, May 22: An Information and Communication Technology Video-Conferencing Learning Center in the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Landhi, was inaugurated by Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil on Monday.
The project was a part of the efforts to promote the use of advanced communication technology in schools located in remote areas of the city. This learning centre will enable students and faculty members of the school as well as from other adjoining areas to broaden their horizons by making full use of video-conferencing facilities.
Under this programme, experts would impart training and technical know-how pertaining to usage of the video-conferencing facility to students and the faculty members of the school.
Supported by the government, the aim of this programme is to set up a role model institution that would give exposure to children studying in government schools and provide them with a lifetime opportunity of increased awareness and knowledge of cultural diversity around the globe through technology.
The inaugural ceremony of the ICT video-conferencing learning center was marked by a live video conference session facilitated by Global Leap, the UK, with participation from students of the Silverdale Primary School of the UK and Karachi High School.
Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil expressed hope for more government schools to become a part of this public-private partnership. She said: “Increased global competition around the world has resulted in heavy reliance on technology in every avenue of life and the city government by facilitating learning in schools through video-conferencing hopes to stimulate better brainstorming, knowledge sharing and information gathering amongst students.”
Intel Pakistan Corporation Country Manager Aslam Khan said, “Integration of information and communication technology in education is critical for the development of skills needed to succeed in today’s knowledge-based economy.” –PPI
