KARACHI: Call for strike against govt’s failure to arrest culprits
KARACHI, May 22: Ahle Sunnat Wa Jamat on Monday announced to observe strike in Karachi on May 27 in protest against government's failure to arrest the culprits behind the April 11 Nishtar Park tragedy in which over 60 people, including eminent Ulema were martyred.
Speaking at a press conference at party's office in Karachi, Mufti Muneebur Rahman appealed to traders, businessmen, labour unions and transporters to support the strike call, and voluntarily close their businesses and keep public and private transport off the roads.
Haji Hanif Tayyab and Sunni Tehreek leader Shahid Ghauri were also present.
Mufti Muneeb also urged the administrations of all schools and educational institutions to close their institutes on May 27 and called upon the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) to cancel and reschedule the ongoing intermediate examination on Saturday.
He said Ahle Sunnat Wa Jamat would also observe a protest day on Friday during which Ulema would narrate details of Nishtar Park tragedy during Juma sermons and condemn government's attitude.
Mufti Muneeb demanded of the government to register cases against terrorists involved in Nishtar Park carnage under anti-terrorism act, conduct their trial in speedy courts and also register a blasphemy case against them under 295-C of the PPC.—PPI
