ISLAMABAD, May 21: The Higher Education Commission has said that governors retain powers to appoint a vice-chancellor from a panel of candidates recommended by a ‘search committee’ of eminent scholars. It said that governors could also ask for fresh names.
Commenting on a report stating that governors’ powers had been withdrawn, which appeared in a section of the press on Sunday, the HEC said its chief Dr Attaur Rahman had given no such statement in a recent meeting with journalists.—Online
