PORT-OF-SPAIN, May 21: Zimbabwe thrived on a maiden One-day International century from Vusi Sibanda to clinch the Tri-Nation tournament at the Queen’s Park Oval with an 83-run victory over Bermuda on Saturday.
Sibanda, who averaged just 16.12 from 32 innings, hit 116 that guided Zimbabwe to post 259 for seven after Terrence Duffin won the toss and chose to bat in the final.
Man-of-the-Match Sibanda, who stroked nine fours and one six in his 137-ball innings, added 88 inside 14 overs for the third-wicket with Brendan Taylor.
Taylor cracked a typically bellicose half century, hitting five fours and one six on his way to a 50-ball 55.
Bermuda, who will make their World Cup debut next year, were found wanting as they subsided to 176 all out in the 48th over.
Opening bowlers Tawanda Mupariwa and Blessing Mahwire finished with three wickets apiece while young off-spinner Prosper Utseya produced another impressive spell. He took two or 21 in 10 overs.
Canada, the third team in fray, were disappointing having lost both their preliminary matches in the competition.
