KARACHI, May 21: Cancellation of a race seconds before its start led to hue and cry by race goers in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Three-year-old bay colt, Captain Black, with no form worth was installed favourite against public fancy chestnut colt, Red Rufus in the sixth race.

Captain Black odds soared up which made the public furious who raised an uproar resulting in its withdrawal.

Finally, when the race was about to start, it was cancelled citing no valid reason.

Khush Nazar, 11-year-old chestnut mare, surprised all and sundry when she galloped to victory by Mumtaz Ali in the five furlongs opener.

Trained by owner Abdul Ghaffar, she edged out nine-year-old Raaz by two lengths.

The running of Lucky View and Arab King who were favourites in the race needs to be looked into and the results notified to the public as they were not satisfied with their performance.

Jockey Mohammad Essa sprinted four-year-old bay colt, Baba Jani, to a convincing five lengths victory in the next race.

With no reckoning four-year-old bay filly, Juliat, pulled off another surprise of the day when she was piloted home by Zaki Zakir in the third race.

It is strange that she had been racing with no form worth raving about and was installed favourtite.

Backed by connections, four-year-old chestnut colt, Terrorist, returned to form by landing the fourth race.

Filly, Annaba, which was public fancy, ran out of board and its needs a probe.

Making amends of successive losses, bay filly, Voo Doo Doll, picked up the spoils outclassing Mera Jugnoo and Closing Arguments.

Owned by M. Shahrukh and trained by S. Ehtisham, Dragun Heart reasserted his superiority by picking up the concluding event.

Meanwhile, the KRC has withdrawn the license of rider Abdul Rahim, after he was involved in a scuffle with contemporary Waheed Baran at the finishing post soon after the third race.

With the exception of top three horses, the KRC has fined a sum of Rs2,000 apiece on all riders of the fourth race for ‘unsatisfactory riding’.
