BAHAWALPUR, May 21: Some legal heirs of the late Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi’s property have protested against, what they say, apathy of the federal ministry’s states and frontier region.

Begum Haroonul Rashid Abbasi and her two children allege that Safron officials are not giving them the possession and access to the properties recently allotted to them under a federal government award.

In a joint appeal to President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Mr Yar Muhammad Rind, minister for Safron, the wife of the late ambassador, her son Sahibzada Haroon Abbasi and daughter Sahibzadi Naseem Abbasi alleged that they had been facing undue interference and harassment in obtaining documents.

They said they were being denied access to their residential property in Bahawalpur, which was currently occupied by the TMA and some portion of the press club. They have kept furniture and other belongings locked in several rooms and refused to vacate the premises.

The applicants said the revenue field staff had declined to provide them relevant documents of their ownership.

Begum Haroon pointed out that as the custodian of the late Nawab’s properties, Safron was legally bound to ensure that the interests of the Bahawalpur amir were properly looked after in accordance with law.
