KARACHI: Five killed in highway accident

KARACHI, May 21 : Five fruit and vegetable traders died and 15 others were injured in an early morning accident on the Super Highway. Police said the traders who used to sell their produce at the New Sabzi Mandi from Thatta were headed back in their van when in an attempt to save a motorcyclist their vehicle overturned, resulting in the instant death of four.

The injured were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where a fifth of the victims died. Some of the injured were referred to the JPMC for treatment.

Those who died in the accident were identified as Mohammad Ayub, driver of the van; Hashim, Sikandar, Akbar Laghari and Abdul Shakoor.

The injured included: Ghulam Rasool, Mohammad Essa, Shafi Mohammad, Abdul Rauf and others.

Following the legal formalities, the bodies were sent to their native town, police said.
