KARACHI, May 21: The Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, has directed the authorities of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation and Wapda to take immediate steps for improving the power supply situation in the city.
Ibad especially called the chief executive of the KESC to the Governor’s House for the purpose on Saturday. The head of Siemens Pakistan, Suhail Wajahat, was also present.
Expressing his concern about the hardships of citizens due to suspension of power supply, the governor issued necessary directives to the chief executive of the KESC for providing relief to the people.
The governor stressed the Corporation to enhance its own power generation capacity instead of depending on Wapda and other sources.
He directed that repair and other matters responsible for power suspension should be dealt on priority basis and ordered for expeditious completion of works in progress.
Ibad said that while completing these works, sudden power breakdowns and prolonged suspension of power supply should be avoided.
He also directed the Wapda authorities to ensure complete cooperation with the KESC, maintain the flow of power supply to the Corporation and regulate the required frequency.
The governor issued directives to the concerned government authorities to ensure, keeping the provisions of the Shops Act in view, closure of shops and markets on weekends/public holidays and during night hours for three months.
However, he said that medical stores should be exempted from this restriction.
Meanwhile, in separate meetings with international delegations that called on him at the Governor’s House, Ibad said that work was in progress for developing all sectors in the province.
The delegations included Chinese investors, Ashraf Muhammad Ali of the Al-Azam Group, the Al Salman Group of Kuwait, the Consul General of Kuwait, Consul General of the USA Mary H Witt, and the Canadian Ambassador David Collins.—APP
