KARACHIi, May 19: Indian skipper Purvinder Singh outboxed Pakistan's Nadir Khan to give his country a 1-0 lead in the Pakistan-India Friendship boxing series on Friday at KPT Sports Complex.
Purvinder, the Commonwealth bronze medallist did not allow home-crowd advantage to his younger counterpart Nadir in winning 21-14 to give his team a lead after the middleweight battle.
“It feel like I was home as crowd supported me which helped in reducing pressure,” said Purvinder after winning the first bout of the series.
With 1-0 up, India's Dewakar Prasad will take on Asghar Ali Shah in the second match of the series on Saturday in lightweight category.
The third and the last match will be played between Asian Games gold medallists Mehrullah Lassi (Pakistan) and J Bhagwan (India) in the featherweight category on Sunday.—Agencies
