KARACHI, May 19: Top seed Khurram Agha maintained his superiority when he twice came from behind to down 11th seed Atiq Latif Bux 7-6 in the 100-minute final to capture Pakistan Cue Masters title at the Karachi Club on Friday.

This is the second title annexed by Khurram this year. Earlier, he won his maiden national crown and shot up in the national ranking.

Khurram, 29, who made it to the final after he got the better of Sohail Shehzad 7-4 earlier in the day, was not in his true elements when the battle for supremacy commenced before a large crowd.

After his stunning triumphs over Naveen and Saim, highly talented Atiq continued his consistent performance when he edged out second seed Imran Shehzad 7-3 to propel into the final.

Having represented the country at the 2004 World Snooker championship at Holland, Khurram conceded three of the four snooker frames 46-64, 44-79, 71-60, 23-76 to trail 1-3.

However, he reduced his deficit to 2-3 picking up the opening billiards frame 52-10, before losing the next 26-51.

He got his act together by grabbing the opening three frames of pool to surge 5-4 ahead.

Atiq grabbed the fourth and fifth frames to lead 6-5 in the final.

Finally, it was Khurram who turned the table on his opponent winning the next two frames.

Khurram picked up the winning purse of Rs50,000 while Atiq took home runners up prize of Rs30,000.

The remaining 14 participants received Rs5,000 apiece as appearance money.
