Tehsil employees hold protest

By Our Correspondent

LAKKI MARWAT, May 19: Employees of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) staged a demonstration on Friday in protest against non-payment of salary and sacking of 35 of their colleagues.

The protesters led by Welfare Workers’ Union president Khursheed Alam Khan took out a procession from Tanchi and marched through the Lakki-Darra Tang and Kutchery Roads before reaching the tehsil municipal office.

They chanted slogans in favour of their demands.

Union leaders held negotiations with district nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan, acting tehsil nazim Shaukat Hayat Khan and Tehsil Municipal Officer Lakki Haji Sakhi Jan Marwat.

They demanded immediate payment of salaries and reinstatement of employees.

The union leaders threatened that the TMA workers would stop performing their duties if the authorities did not meet their demands.

They pointed out that the services of 35 employees had been terminated on the grounds that the TMA was suffering a financial crisis but, they complained, the jobs had been offered to some blue-eyed boys of the TMO.

The district and tehsil authorities assured the labour leaders that all out efforts would be made to redress the grievances of the TMA employees.
