PESHAWAR, May 19: Thousands of fake educational degrees and certificates, Pakistani and Afghan passports and other bogus official documents were seized in a raid at a local medicine market, an official said on Friday.
The FIA crime circle raided an office in the Fayyaz medicine market in the walled city on Thursday and seized four sacks of fake official documents.
However, two accused, who were later charged in the case, are absconding.
The FIA was looking for the accused, said Inspector Zahid Dawar, a member of the FIA raiding team.
The FIA on Thursday evening raided the office belonged to Faiz-ur-Rehman alias Papu Khan and Farmanullah, the official said.
All the fake degrees and certificates of medical and commerce colleges and other institutions and added were blank, Mr Dawar said.
Blank driving licences and genuine Afghan and Pakistani manual passports were also found in the office of Papu Khan, who pretended to be in whole-sale medicine business.
A large number of Pakistani and Afghani identity cards, bogus visa stickers of Oman and UAE and driving licences of the countries were also seized, Mr Dawar said.
Revenue stamps of the NWFP and Balochistan governments, Nikah certificates, bogus stamps of Pakistan counsulate in Jalalabad, certificates of PMDC, registration papers of Engineering Council and motor and vehicle registration documents have also been seized.
“This is the biggest seizure of bogus documents on the recent FIA record,” Mr Dawar claimed.
The seized documents indicated that Papu Khan and Farmanullah had close contacts with travel agents. “We are gathering information and will nab the agents indulging in illegal activities,” the official said.
Mr Dawar said that the FIA had raided the real estate office of Papu Khan in Aasiya Gate and his another office in an adjacent locality, but could not arrest him.
He said that Papu Khan was a candidate for a councillor’s seat in Union Council Aasiya Gate in last year’s local government elections.
ARRESTED: The FIA’s Anti-Trafficking Unit (ATU) has arrested two people on charges of sending job-seekers to Oman and other countries, another senior official said on Friday.
Assistant Director ATU Saleh Mohammad told Dawn they had arrested Omar Wahid, son of Abdul Mateen, during a raid at his house in Gandigar village near Wari town of Upper Dir district on Thursday.
The raid was conducted on information provided by Sayed Jamal-ud-Din, who had been deported from Oman on April 16 to Karachi.
Jamal-ud-Din disclosed that he had paid a huge amount of money to Omar Wahid for a job in Muscat.
The accused had been charged under the Human Trafficking Ordinance 2002, said Mr Saleh Mohammad.
In another raid in the Nothia Jadid area of the city, the ATU arrested Gul Zaman, son of Mehraban, from his residence, the FIA official said.
Gul Zaman was wanted by the FIA for sending sending people to Malaysia and Dubai on bogus documents. The ATU has charged the accused under the Human Trafficking Ordinance 2002.
Mr Saleh Mohammad saidd that a close relative of the accused, Sayed Zahid Shah, scuffled with the FIA team, during the raid.
Zahid Shah was later arrested by the Bhana Mari police on the charges of obstructing FIA’s official work.
He was arrested under section 186, 225 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code, he added.
