ISLAMABAD, May 18: Officials of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and chief secretaries of the provinces, AJK, Northern Areas and Fata are meeting here on Friday to endorse the draft of the national fisheries policy.

The draft will then be placed before the cabinet for final approval.

The policy is aimed at upgrading the seafood quality, processing and monitoring system to international standards and enabling Pakistan to resume its seafood export to the European Union.

On Thursday, the secretary for the ministry, Ismail Qureshi, proposed appropriate institutional arrangements for implementing the policy.
