KARACHI, May 18: The Sindh Assembly, which is scheduled to meet on Friday, is not likely to deliberate on any matter on the first day of its sixth session of the current parliamentary year.
The session, if it goes by the tradition, will be adjourned till Monday soon after routine proceedings – recitation from the Holy Quran and Naat to be followed by nomination of a panel of chairmen – to mourn the death of MPA Manzoor Leghari.
In the absence of the Speaker, Syed Muzzaffar Hussain Shah, who has gone to India to attend a conference, Deputy Speaker Rahila Tiwana will preside over the session.
However, the 24-item order of the day includes questions on agriculture, women development and cooperation departments.It also includes announcement of the governor’s assent to the Sindh Water Management (Amendment) Bill, 2005, and the Sindh Animals Slaughter Control (Amendment) Bill, 2004.
It also contains motion for leave to withdraw a bill for further amending the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001; a bill to further amending the Societies Registration Act, 1860; and a motion regarding the Consumer Protection Bill, 2004, for referring it to the appropriate standing committee.
Other items pertain to laying of ordinances under Article 128(2a) of the Constitution. These ordinances, include the Sindh Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance 2006; the Sindh Assembly Members, Ministers and Special Assistants to the Chief Minister (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) Amending Ordinance 2005; the Consumer Protection Ordinance 2006; the Sindh Province Pension Fund (Amendment) Ordinance 2006; the Sindh Health Institutions (Establishment and Management) Ordinance 2006; and the Sindh Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2004, for reconsideration.
Besides, seven government bills would also be laid for consideration. These include the Dow University of Health and Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2005; Sindh Civil Servants Housing Foundation Bill, 2005; Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Bill, 2005; Sindh Disposal of Urban Land (Repeal), 2005; Sindh Regional Plan Organization (Repeal) Bill, 2006; Liaquat and Dow Medical and Health Sciences Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2006; and a bill on the Sale and Use of Polythene Bags.
