HYDERABAD, May 17: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that a proposal is under consideration to ban the entry of lorries into the city limits from 10am to 10pm.

Presiding over a meeting at the district nazim secretariat here, he said the district government was trying to find a permanent parking place out of the city for trucks transporting food-grain.

The nazim told the meeting that a vigorous campaign for removing encroachments in the city would be launched in a few days. Goods lying outside shops would be confiscated and encroachers could be arrested, he warned.

He said the anti-encroachment steps were necessary to streamline the traffic system and to help control road accidents.

The district nazim allayed the apprehensions of a grain merchant group, which was present in the meeting, and assured them that the ban would only apply on the trucks of grain market. The goods transport would follow the existing practice, he told the group.

He directed the DPO to enforce the traffic rules to provide relief to the citizens. Stressing the need for unloading the goods of grain markets at some place outside the city, he directed EDO (revenue) Abdul Sattar Jatoo to identify some suitable government plot for this purpose.
