BAHAWALPUR, May 16: The Kotwali police on Tuesday registered a case against four people, including a lawyer, on the charge of kidnapping a family. According to DPO Arif Nawaz, the case has been registered on the complaint of Amir Khan, who alleged that his nephew Yahyah Khan advocate along with his wife, two sons, a daughter and nephew, were kidnapped from their house by Niqaz Anwar Baloch, a relative, and his three accomplices over a family dispute.
A police team, headed by ASP (city) Mahar Zulfiqar Ahmad had been deputed to arrest the suspects.
SILVER AREA: The federal government has declared Bahawalpur silver jewellery area.
According to Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mahboob Nasir Chaudhry, the government had given this status to the district on the recommendations of the BCCI and Smeda.
At a meeting of the officials of Smeda and other departments on Tuesday, it was revealed that Pakistan would also set up its stall at an international exhibition of gems and jewellery to be held in September next in Thailand. The intending participants would be imparted training in Lahore in June.
It was pointed out that although the government had declared jewellery manufacturing work as an industry, so far small industrial corporation had not been issued notification.
The meeting also proposed the government to collect the popular designs of silver jewellery from the women of foreign countries, particularly of Thailand, through commercial attaches to model the local work upon them.
KILLED: A child, Sabir Shah, was run down and killed and his brother Suleman Shah was seriously grievously injured by a speeding truck near Mehrabwala Pull here on Tuesday.
RESULTS: The Islamia University on Tuesday announced the results of MA history and economics, second annual examinations held in 2005.
According to gazette notification, 182 out of the 461 history exam candidates were declared successful at a percentage of 39.48.
In economics, some 77 out of 209 candidates were declared successful with a 37 percentage.
