KARACHI, May 16: The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof Pirzada Qasim, has asked the faculty members to devote themselves towards imparting knowledge to students.

He was addressing 39 newly appointed assistant professors and lecturers at the Council Room of the Dean of KU's Faculty of Arts on Tuesday.The VC said the teachers of today were better as far as the scale of salaries and facilities for teachers were concerned compared to teachers in the past.

He stated the situation was very conducive for those who had chosen the profession of teaching out of their own free will.

Prof Pirzada said that tremendous opportunities were available for faculty members to enhance their knowledge and make headway in addition to benefiting students by imparting knowledge to them.

The VC asked the teachers to foster a culture of research and promote merit. He said that in this era of competition, the responsibilities of the teachers had also increased further.

Prof Pirzada said that the students of today were very intelligent, had access to technology and seemed to be well advanced in his/her subject of interest.—APP
