KARACHI: Monitoring bodies asked to hold weekly meetings

KARACHI, May 16: Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil has asked the chairpersons of city government's monitoring committees to discharge their responsibilities while maintaining good liaison with the officials.

Speaking at a meeting with the heads of these committees, she asked them to study the powers assigned to them and various group of offices under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance. She directed the committee heads to hold regular weekly meetings and review the performance of their committees keeping the powers of respective group of offices in view.

She said the rules, which were to be prepared under the SLGO, should be made and enforced forthwith, particularly the monitoring rules so that the committees could play their role effectively.

When some of the committee heads complained about non-cooperation from the EDOs of their department, Nasreen Jalil said this matter would be brought to the notice of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal for remedial action.

It was decided that committee heads would submit quarterly performance reports of their departments to nazib nazim for submission before the council as required under the rules. —APP
