Lankan truce monitors call off work

By Our Correspondent

COLOMBO, May 16: European truce monitors overseeing Sri Lanka’s deteriorating ceasefire said on Tuesday they had decided to suspend monitoring of sea activities in the LTTE-dominated north and east. The decision to temporarily call off naval monitoring came after the LTTE attacked a navy vessel last week that had two monitors on board.

The two emerged unscathed after they were caught in a fierce sea battle following the LTTE’s attack on the boats.
