ISLAMABAD, May 15: Umer Amin belted a sparkling century as City School H-8/4 defeated Islamabad Model School for Boys F-10/3 by 39 runs to claim the PCB National Schools Championship (Islamabad) on Monday for the second year running.
After being asked to bat first at the Diamond Ground, City rode on Umer's run-a-ball innings of 117 in which he blasted 11 fours to pile up 279 for seven in 45 overs and then bowled out the rivals for 241.
Umer dominated the show completely and stayed at the crease for 160 minutes in soaring heat guiding his team to a healthy total.
It was a toil for the IMCB attack in which Kashif Ali Khan picked up 3-38 and Danial Khan took two for 56 runs.
IMCB made a gallant start with openers Owais Ahmed and Kashif Ali Khan put on 194 runs in an incredible stand.
Owais stroked a sizzling 93 with 10 hits to the ropes and Kashif struck 83 to give their side a solid start. But IMCB lost their way once the openers were accounted for and slumped from 200 for two to 241 all out.
Umer Amin put the brakes on IMCB claiming four wickets for 41 runs while Sajjad Satti and Zeeshan Khan shared six wickets.
The Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA) hosted an impressive closing ceremony where in attendance was Mustafain Kazmi of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), ICA chief Shakil Shaikh and president of Rawalpindi Division Cricket Association (RDCA) Ashraf Qureshi.
Mustafain Kazmi said on the occasion that CDA was spending Rs 15 crore on making new grounds and upgrading several others across Islamabad. "This is for the first time that such a hefty amount is being spent on developing grounds," he said.
Shakil said that helping build a new stadium in Islamabad was one of his main objectives as he wanted to see the city host some matches of the 2011 World Cup.
