Complainant in DNA test case shot dead

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, May 15: A woman who was complainant in the much publicised DNA test case was shot dead in Basti Abdullah, while police have booked former district naib nazim, his cousin and an unidentified person for the murder on Tuesday. Reports said that former district naib nazim Syed Abbas Raza Rizvi had allegedly developed illicit relations with one Mehnaz Fatima of Basti Abdullah, who gave birth to a girl.

However, Mr Rizvi had denied that he was father of the girl. Meanwhile, Mehnaz Fatima’s elder sister Shehnaz Fatima moved the competent court to secure her sister’s ‘legal rights’.

As the case was publicised in the print media, the Supreme Court took suo moto action in the matter, and ordered the DNA test of the accused. The case was reportedly pending in the apex court.

On Monday night, Shahnaz was shot dead when the two sisters were sleeping in their house.

Deepalpur city police have registered the case, on the report of Mehnaz Fatima, under section 302, PPC.
