GUJRANWALA, May 15: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has regularised over 200 employees, including 64 junior engineers and revenue officers of Grade-17, besides promoting 49 upper division clerks in Grade-11. At a joint works council meeting here on Monday, Gepco chief executive Brig Saifullah Khalid said about a dozen employees who had been working as daily wagers for the last five years had also been regularised.
He said the company had paid Rs3 million to 205 employees under marriage grant, Rs165,000 as scholarship to the children of some 164 employees and Rs54,000 per month to 61 widows regularly. He claimed the company had provided all necessary equipment to the line staff for security measures.
ROBBERIES: Robbers looted houses of two traders, half a dozen passers-by and took away a motorcycle in different incidents in and around the city here on Monday.
Reports said eight outlaws forced their entry into the house of trader Saifur Rehman in Asad Colony in Sabzi Mandi area by scaling the boundary wall. They held the inmates hostage and made off with Rs250,000, 25-tola jewellery, two mobile phones, a camera and other valuables. Four bandits entered the house of one Shafiq Mughal on Jinnah Road, took away a cash of Rs68,000, 14-tola ornaments and other valuables.
In another incident, four robbers intercepted two traders Amanat Ali and Muhammad Arshed in Model Town area and deprived them of Rs175,000, mobile phones and a motorcycle when they were on their way home from market. Two motorcyclists intercepted three friends Qadir, Farman and Usman Ahmad when they were on their way home from the Model Town market. They looted cash totalling Rs52,000, three cell phones and fled.
