KARACHI, May 15: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Rahim has described the deal at Sunday meeting between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif as a case of ‘marriage of convenience’. Talking to media men at the CM’s House on Monday, he said that the feelings of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif were obvious from their faces during the meeting. He said there was also an objection about the venue of the meeting in London, the residence of Rehman Malik, whom he described as a ‘corrupt man’.

Dr Arbab said that he had heard that the participants of the meeting had alighted from their Rolls Royce cars while they were talking about the poor.

The chief minister said that there were also objections at the meeting on petty matters.

He wondered that with the infighting already started, what would be the situation when they would reach here. He pointed out that both the former premiers had been describing each other as ‘security risk’.

“It is not a ‘Meesaq’ (charter) of Democracy, but a ‘Mazaq’ (mockery) of democracy, he remarked. He said that the people of Pakistan had fully understood Ms Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif who have served two terms as prime minister.

Nawaz Sharif is not ready to accept his brother, Shahbaz Sharif, whereas Ms Bhutto is not ready to accept her husband, Asif Zardari and both the leaders are looking for their own rule. This is the struggle for power, and not for the poor.

The chief minister said that he knew Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif well, adding: “they cannot change and there cannot be any reconciliation between the two.”

He predicted that whenever they would return, they would start fighting again.

SUGAR MILLS WORKERS: The chief minister said that the provincial government was contemplating that what package could be given to the workers of Thatta and Dadu sugar mills.

Dr Arbab said negotiations in this respect were under way.

He said the two mills had been destroyed by the governments of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif. It was because of them that these mills, otherwise public assets, had failed.
