KARACHI: PPP slams brutality to mill workers

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, May 15: The Pakistan People’s Party, women wing, has strongly condemned the government’s ‘inhumane’ treatment of Dadu and Thatta sugar mills workers and their families.

Addressing a news conference at the Bilawal House, PPP’s information secretary Shazia Marri (MPA) slammed the police brutalities against the helpless victims, who included women and children.

Ms Marri regretted that the workers and their family members had been manhandled ruthlessly merely for exercising their right to protest. She said that the administration’s intentions could be gauged from the fact that it had allocated Rs13 million for teargas alone, making elaborate plans to sabotage peaceful protests.

She demanded action against the personnel involved in subjecting women and children to brutal action. She also demanded release of all those arrested during the protest.

The legislator pointed out that the constitution guaranteed women’s rights and that these rights could be safeguarded only by a democratic government. She said that the PPP and its leadership were actively engaged in the struggle for the restoration of democracy.
