Rice miller robbed of Rs5m cash

MULTAN, May 13: A businessman was deprived of Rs5 million by three robbers in broad daylight in the populated Hasan Parwana locality on Saturday.

Reports said Muhammad Waqar Yousafzai, a rice mill owner, was shifting the cash from a bank branch on Abdali Road to another bank located at Chowk Shaheeda, along with three officials of the latter bank.

They were passing by Hasan Parwana area when a car (LOA-4847) stopped them. Three armed men came out of the vehicle, snatched cash from Yousafzai and fled.

ROTARY CLUB: Iftikhar Mahmood Baig has been elected president of the Rotary Club Midtown, Multan, for 2006-07.

Speaking at a luncheon arranged in his honour by industrialist Mian Mughees A. Sheikh, he said the Rotarians could build a better future for having skills, resources and desire to do away with the status quo.

He said during the year 2006-07 the focus of the club in its sphere of working would be on water management, literacy, health and hunger and the Rotary family. He said over the last 15 years the club had already carried out service projects related to these areas.
