Bade Ghulam Ali Khan music conference


LAHORE, May 13: Noted singers from Pakistan and India are performing at the Bade Ghulam Ali Khan music conference being held at Alhamra on Monday.

The conference is being organised by a cultural organisation, Caravan, and Kasur Patiala Gharana Music Circle with the cooperation of the Lahore Arts Council, PHA and the Bank of Punjab.

The grandsons of the legendary singer, Mazhar Ali Khan and Jawad Ali Khan, have especially come from India to attend the conference which has been actually arranged by their brother in Pakistan, Naqi Ali Khan. They would present their gharana’s khayal and thumri.

Leading classical, semi-classical, folk and playback singers from Pakistan, including Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Hamid Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Nadeem Abbas, Allah Ditta Looneywala, Arshad Fateh Ali Khan, Saira Nasim, Tarannum Naz, Humaira Channa and Samina Malik, will also perform to pay homage to the late Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.

The Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Award would also be launched on the occasion. The awards would be given to Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali (best ghazal singers), Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (best classical singer), Allah Ditta Looneywala (best folk singer), Farrukh Bashir (best music producer), Wazir Afzal (best music director) and Tajammal Husain (best lyricist).

Federal Culture Minister Dr Ghulam Jamal would be the chief guest. —Staff Reporter
