KARACHI, May 13: Complaints of unannounced power load-shedding from various areas of the city continued to pour into newspaper offices while the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation termed the power situation as normal.
People referred to the federal minister for power’s claim that there was no load-shedding anywhere in the country when, in fact, power shutdowns continued unabated in various localities here.
A resident from Block 13/D/III, Gulshan-i-Iqbal said that power was shut down from 10am to 4.15pm. “The same thing happens at night,” he said.
He said that unannounced load-shedding had forced residents of the area to spend sleepless nights.
A resident from the Federal B Area said that 60-90 minutes of load-shedding had become a daily routine. While residents from blocks 3, 14, 15, and 16 of the same area also complained that power went off in their localities twice a day and during nights.
A consumer from Malir Halt said that an hour of unannounced load-shedding was carried out thrice a day daily, which disproved the KESC’s claims that the power situation was normal.
Residents of North Karachi and New Karachi also suffered prolonged power failures after a cable fault developed there. The fault was rectified and the power supply was restored after hours.
Similarly complaints were also received from the residents of Nazimabad and Liaquatabad, who complained of two to three hours of load-shedding in their localities.
However, the KESC spokesman said that the power supply situation was normal on Saturday and the power utility did not need to resort to power load-shedding.
He further said that the power demand was met accordingly, adding that though some localized faults did take place, they were repaired and the supply was restored.
