Inzy welcomes ICC’s recommendation on appeals
KARACHI, May 12: Pakistani captain Inzamamul Haq on Friday welcomed International Cricket Council (ICC)'s recommendation to allows players to make appeal to the third umpire in case of difference with the on-field umpire.
ICC in its meeting last week agreed to player's making a limited number of appeals in case of dissatisfaction on a certain decision of on-field umpire.
This recommendation would be tested in this year's Champion's Trophy and if get successful would continue in the future.
Terming it a right decision Inzamanm said it will satisfy players on controversial decisions and will also help to avoid bitterness between players and umpires during the high profile matches.
“It will prove to be a good proposal as there will be no chance of flaw to be left in a certain decision by using the third-umpire technology,” said Inzamam who led Pakistan to three consecutive Test series triumphs during 2005-06 said.
Inzamam was also optimistic of a good show from his side in the upcoming full-fledged tour of England that starts later this summer.
He said that 20-25 players are expected to be invited in the conditioning camp being set up for the English tour adding that top performing players from Pakistan A team in recently concluded Eurasia Cup and domestic season will be invited in the camp.
Inzamam believed that camp would be held in two phases saying the first phase will focus on fitness of players while players busy in county cricket will attend the second phase of the camp.
The middle-order batsman also defended hiring South African Jonty Rhodes as fielding saying it was a good step in improving the fielding standards that has always been considered as a gray area of the side.
On Shoaib Akhtar's fitness, Inzamam hoped that the express bowler was recovering fast and would be fit before the England tour.
Inzamam was against separate teams for Tests and ODIs saying that the there was no need for two different teams as recent performances showed allround improvement in both forms of the game.
He was also happy that Pakistan was allotted to host three mega events including World Cup 2011 in the coming years hoping it would boost help in promotion of cricket in the country.—Agencies
