ISLAMABAD, May 11: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz embarked on a five-nation tour on Thursday that will take him to Indonesia, Greece, Libya, Morocco and Egypt.
His first stop will be in Indonesia where he will represent Pakistan at the D-8 Summit meeting of heads of states and governments. The D-8 Summit begins in Bali on Saturday.
The prime minister will be visiting Greece, Libya, Morocco and Egypt from May 14 onwards, a Foreign Office Statement said on Thursday.
On May 14 he will arrive at Athens where he will meet Greek President Karolos Papoulias and Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis.
“Prime Minister’s visit will help enhance bilateral ... trade and investment,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson said.
From May 17-19 Prime Minister will visit Libya and Morocco.
“Prime Minister’s visit to the two countries in the African continent is part of the government’s initiative to strengthen relations with African states,” the FO Spokesperson said.
The Prime Minister will be in Libya from May 17-18. He will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr. Baghdadi Ali Al Mahmudi and also meet Col Muammar Al Qaddafi.
During his stay in Rabat, the Prime Minister will meet King Hassan II and hold talks with Prime Minster Driss Jettou.
The prime minister’s last stop will be Egypt where he is scheduled to arrive on May 20. He will attend the World Economic Forum at Sharm El Shaikh at the invitation of the Egyptian Prime Minister. The prime minister is expected to hold meetings with president and prime minister of Egypt, a foreign ministry statement said.—Q.A.
