HYDERABAD, May 11: District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput on Thursday formed a seven-member reconciliation committee to settle a dispute between brick kiln-owners and workers in taluka Hyderabad.
The committee has been asked to come up with a uniform code of conduct for better working relationship between kiln- owners and workers to avert any confrontation.
The zila naib nazim, presiding over a meeting, said employers and employees were equally responsible for maintaining industrial peace. Disputes between partners not only adversely affected business activities, but also development in the area concerned, he added.
He said the district government had received some complaints about non-provision of health facilities and precautionary measures to protect the workers of brick kilns against carbon dioxide. The district government, he said, being the custodian of people, would not allow anyone to deprive workers of their basic rights or means of livelihood.
He said the district government was following a balanced policy to provide friendly atmosphere to investors/ employers and protect the basic rights of employees.
However, he made it clear that miscreants and so-called leaders would not be allowed to exploit the workers or blackmail the investors. The district government would try its best to promote friendly environment and better working relationship between the employers and the employees by introducing the code of conduct, he vowed.
The district naib nazim asked the brick kiln owners to help the committee formulate a uniform code of conduct and to implement.
He stressed the need for providing health facilities and adopting safety measures and protecting financial rights of the workers.
On the occasion, Sindh Brick Kiln Owners Association president Bahram Khan, general secretary Mohammad Farooque and 35 members of their association said some workers of an NGO were misguiding and exploiting the workers to blackmail the management.
The NGO was not only interfering in the matters of their business, but had also set-up camp offices in the relevant area and were creating a law and order situation there.
They also informed the meeting that residential, and credit facilities had been provided to the workers at the site, but being illiterate, they were being misguided by those so-called NGO leaders.
