SUKKUR, May 11: The Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) urged the government on Wednesday to turn down taluka municipal council’s proposals for new taxes at municipal level for the financial year 2006-2007.

President SCCI Khalid Mehmood Khan and members of the executive committee said in a statement that business and industrial units were already paying a large number of taxes, including professional tax, property tax and sales tax, 60 to 80 per cent of which the district received from the provincial government every year.

Therefore, there was no justification for levying any new taxes, they said.
