HYDERABAD, May 11: A large number of political activists marched from the Hyder chowk to the press club here on Thursday in protest against demolition of villages of Sindhis and what they called anti-Sindh projects.
The march was organised by a legal and technical committee constituted by the Awami Tehrik.
The protesters, including women and children, also staged a sit-in on the press club road, blocking traffic for over two hours.
They raised slogans against ‘anti-Sindh’ projects and criticised the government for bulldozing Sindhis’ villages.
Speaking on the occasion, People’s Party Parliamentarians MPA Zahid Bhurgari, Awami Tehrik leaders Ayaz Latif Palijo, Vishnumal, Muzaffar Sadiq Bhatti and Rasool Bux Unnar, Sindh National Front leader Wali Mohammad Jamari and others said centuries-old villages of Sindhis had been demolished in Karachi and Hyderabad to expel the indigenous population from urban areas.
They also criticised construction of the Bhasha dam, Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal.
They alleged that the rulers were a security risk for the country.
They demanded that an interim government should be appointed to hold elections under an independent election commission and transfer power to elected representatives of people.
They also demanded that PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and PML-N leader Mohammad Nawaz Sharif should be allowed to return to the country.
They announced that a convention of lawyers and technocrats would be held in Hyderabad on July 8 under the aegis of the Save Sindhi Villages and Resources Committee.
