KARACHI: Manhandling of sugar mills’ workers slammed
KARACHI, May 11: Nisar Khuhro, opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly and a central leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has strongly condemned the baton charge of protesting employees of the Dadu and Thatta sugar mills and their families in front of the Governor's House on Thursday.
He said the government had failed in providing fundamental necessities to the people, as the price of sugar was increasing day by day.
He said that rising inflation had made the lives of people miserable, as rates of all essential commodities had gone beyond the reach of common man.
“The days of the present regime are numbered and it will soon be overthrown by the people. A massive anti-government movement will soon be launched in each and every street of the country to compel the rulers to leave their offices, as they have failed in solving peoples' problems,” he said.
He charged that the government was snatching from the people even their right to protest, which he said was one of the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution of the land.
He demanded of the government to approve the demands of the workers of the Dadu and Thatta sugar mills and order a disciplinary action against the policemen responsible for injuring the protesting workers.
Khuhro also criticized the government over the hike in price of sugar throughout the country and said the government had lost the moral right to rule.
He requested the Supreme Court to take suo moto action against those responsible for the hike in sugar prices and issue directives against the minister and other MPAs involved in the scam.
He said the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee had shown in his report that the ruling party's MPAs were involved in this scam.
Khuhro criticised the role of the National Accountability Bureau and alleged that it was only interested in character-assassination of leaders of mainstream parties.
Meanwhile, the Women Wing of the PPP on Thursday also strongly condemned the brutal handling of Dadu Sugar Mills workers on Thursday.
The Information Secretary of PPP’s Women Wing, MPA Shazia Marri, termed the police action against the victims as inhumane and tyrannical.—PPI
