KARACHI, May 11: Most students remained confused on Thursday over whether to go to their educational institution or not on Friday amid a strike call given by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for the day.
Quite a large number of students made phone calls to newspaper offices to seek information about any announcement regarding closure or otherwise of schools, colleges and universities. The phone calls continued to be made till late in the night.
Many of the students appeared worried about the paper, scheduled for Friday, of the final examinations that are in progress.
The situation remained unclear as managements of private schools did not adopt a uniform policy viz-a-viz the strike call and the paper. A student of a private school said teachers had asked the students not to come to school if the strike was effective and in such a situation, the papers scheduled for Friday would be held on Saturday.
It is learnt that some schools run by missionary organizations or big entrepreneur groups had already decided to keep their institutions closed on Friday and announced rescheduling of the affected paper to some other day after the weekly holidays.
When contacted, officials said that the government had not decided to keep public sector educational institutions closed on Friday.
A spokesman for the University of Karachi said that normal academic activities on the campus would continue on Friday as usual and would not be affected by the strike call.
