Tahir grabs crown

KARACHI, May 10: Unseeded Tahir Gul whipped Azheruddin in three sets to win the 45 plus singles title of the second National Seniors tennis championship at the Karachi Gymkhana on Wednesday.

After dropping the opener 6-7, Tahir rallied to clinch the following two sets 6-3, 6-4 in the 110-minute dual.

The top seeds failed to make it to the final and were knocked out earlier.

Three finals are on card for the concluding day on Thursday.

Alam Afzal Janjua has qualified to meet Rizwan Shamsi in the 35 plus singles final.

The pair of Akbar-Zahid Hussain meets Azheruddin-Khalid Mustaghees in the 45 doubles final.

Saima-Javed and M. Iltifat-Seher Khwaja have cruised into the mixed doubles final with three win apiece in the round robin format.
