PPP demands elections by year-end

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 10: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) has rejected the statement of Gen Pervez Musharraf that election schedule would be announced after completion of the term of the present parliament in November 2007 and said the regime has no choice but to announce elections by the end of this year.

Talking to a group of reporters after presiding over a meeting of the party’s provincial information secretaries and media managers at the party’s Central Secretariat here on Wednesday, PPP Central Information Secretary Sherry Rehman said that any further delay in the elections would be harmful for the country.

Ms Rehman criticized Gen Musharraf for attending meetings of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and termed these meetings as part of pre-poll rigging.

Earlier in the meeting, the PPP media managers passed several resolutions condemning the government’s acts of political victimization and asking the chief election commissioner to take notice of the political activities of Gen Musharraf.
