HYDERABAD, May 10: Two union council nazims and a councillor of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) have alleged that the district nazim does not take into confidence any UC nazim, except those of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, while taking decisions on development schemes.
Qasimabad Union Council-2 Nazim Mehboob Abro, Hyderabad City Taluka UC-20 Nazim Hussain Bux Hussaini and councillor Ms Shamshad Memon complained at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday that they had decided to extend full cooperation to the district nazim, but he had failed live up to their expectations.
Mr Abro alleged that the nazim took unilateral decisions on development works without taking the district council’s observations into consideration.
He said that the district council had constituted education and health committees but the nazim appointed his own bodies to supersede those of the council.
Mr Abro claimed that false FIRs were filed against him and Nazim Hyderabad (rural) Taluka Khawand Bux Jahejo, and when the district council decided to get them (FIRs) cancelled the move was impeded.
DENIAL: The district government has denied that it discriminates against anyone in carrying out development works.
A spokesman for the district in a statement on Wednesday described complaints of discrimination as ‘propaganda of vested interests’. The district was treating all the areas of the city, including Qasimabad and Hyderabad (rural) talukas, alike.
He said the district was spending tens of millions of rupees in Qasimabad on water supply, sewerage, roads, health and education schemes,.
The spokesman criticised the people ‘blaming’ the district government for discrimination, and said the district had put the neglected talukas on its priority list.
Giving details, the spokesman said that a Rs80 million sewage treatment plant was under construction while work on the Rs68.34 million Sheedi Goth pumping station had begun.
He said the district government had installed generators at all the pumping stations to ensure uninterrupted water supply and disposal of sewage.
New sewers were being laid from the Qasimabad main road to Jandal Shah Goth.
