Schools receive cash prizes

LAHORE, May 9: The Punjab Sports Department on Tuesday distributed cash prizes of Rs8.05 million to the schools which won top three positions in the first Chief Minister Punjab School Cup held in Lahore last September.

The competitions were held in basketball, volleyball, athletics (girls), football, hockey and athletics (boys).

But the Sports Department could not award the cash prizes to the winners on the same day because it had organised the gala without getting funds from the government.

The winners of each event received an amount of Rs833,500, the runners-up Rs416,000 while the third placed team Rs166,000.

Following are the winners:

Girls:

Basketball: Government Zia High School, Faisalabad; Government Fatima Jinnah, High School, Sheikhupura; Government Pilot Secondary High School, Sahiwal.

Volleyball: Government High School, Phalia; Government High School, Shadbagh, Lahore; Government High School, 198 RB, Faisalabad.

Athletics; Government Higher, Secondary School, Awan Town, Lahore; Government Higher Secondary School, Mincher Chatha, Gujranwala; Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary School, Faisalabad.

Boys:

Football: Government M.C High School, Layyah; Government M.C High School, Arifwala; Government Higher Secondary School, Chooha Khalsa.

Hockey: Government Jamia High School, Sargodha; Government Model High School, Model Town, Lahore; Government Model High School, Vehari.

Athletics: Government High School, Chicha Watni, Sahiwal; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Muzaffargarh; Government High School, Khanowana, Faisalabad.
